SabByte is a web design and website maintenance company based in England. We build and maintain websites for small businesses across the UK.

What data we collect and why

Contact form

When you fill in our contact form, we collect:

• Your name
• Your email address
• Any message or information you choose to send us

We use this information to respond to your enquiry. Nothing else. We do not add you to a mailing list or sell your data.

The legal basis for processing this data is legitimate interest. You contacted us, so we need your details to reply.

Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4, a measurement tool provided by Google. It counts visits and shows us which pages people actually read.

We use it for one thing: working out what is useful on this site and what needs fixing. We do not run advertising, we do not build profiles of visitors, and we never sell or share this data with anyone else.

If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics collects:

• The pages you view and how long you spend on them
• Your approximate location, worked out from your IP address and accurate to city level at best
• Your device type, screen size, operating system and browser
• How you reached the site, such as a search engine, a link on another website, or a social post
• What you do while you are here, such as how far you scroll and which links you click

This data does not tell us who you are. We cannot see your name or your email address in it. Google uses your IP address to estimate your location and does not store it in Google Analytics, so we never see it.

The legal basis is your consent. Nothing described above is collected until you accept.

How we ask for consent

We use Google Consent Mode v2. Analytics starts switched off and stays off until you say otherwise.

When you first arrive, a banner appears at the bottom of the screen with two choices: "Accept all" and "Essential only". Both buttons do exactly what they say and neither is pre-selected. The site works normally while the banner is open, so you can read it or leave it and carry on.

Before you choose, and for the whole visit if you choose "Essential only", no analytics cookies are written to your device. Nothing is stored to recognise you on a later visit.

One thing worth being clear about. Before you choose, Google Analytics sends a basic signal that carries no cookies and no identifiers. It says a page was viewed and includes the page address, your browser type and your approximate location. It cannot be linked to you, to your device, or to any other visit you make. Google uses signals like this to estimate overall visitor numbers. If you choose "Essential only", that is all that ever gets sent.

When you accept, Google Analytics sets the cookies listed below and starts collecting the data described above.

Consent Mode v2 uses a set of signals to control what Google's tools are allowed to do. Three of them cover advertising. We do not advertise, so all three are set to denied on every page and stay that way. The banner never changes them, whichever button you press.

Cookies and local storage

Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. Local storage does a similar job and holds a small amount of data in your browser. Here is everything this site uses.

Choose "Essential only" and the two Google cookies are never set. The third is saved either way, because we have to record your answer somewhere or the banner would appear on every page you open.

Changing your mind

You can change your choice at any time. Click Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. That deletes your saved answer, switches analytics back off straight away, and brings the banner back so you can choose again.

You can also clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings. And you can opt out of Google Analytics on every site you visit by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, available at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

How long we keep your data

Contact form enquiries are kept for as long as is reasonably necessary to respond to and manage your enquiry. If we do not take on your project, we will delete your details within 12 months.

Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months from your visit, then Google deletes it automatically. The reports we read are aggregated, which means they are counts and averages with nothing in them that points to a person. We keep those for as long as they are useful.

Your cookie choice sits in your own browser for 180 days. After that it expires and we ask again. Clearing it is entirely in your hands, either through the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page or through your browser settings.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We only share it in the following limited circumstances:

Google LLC (Google Analytics)

If you accept analytics cookies, data about your visit goes to Google. Google acts as our data processor for Analytics, which means it handles that data on our instructions under Google's own data processing terms rather than deciding for itself what to do with it.

Google processes the data on servers outside the UK, including in the United States. Those transfers rely on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which the UK government recognises as giving your data protection equivalent to UK law. Google is certified under that framework. Where it does not apply, transfers rely on the International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Hosting

Our website is hosted via Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process basic technical data (such as IP addresses) as part of delivering the website to your browser. This is standard for any website host.

Cloudflare Workers

When you submit our contact form, the data you enter is processed by a Cloudflare Worker before being delivered to us. This means your name, email address, and message pass through Cloudflare's infrastructure as part of that process. Cloudflare acts as a data processor on our behalf.

Resend

We use Resend to deliver contact form submissions to us by email. When you submit the form, your name, email address, and message are sent through Resend's email infrastructure. Resend acts as a data processor on our behalf and does not use your data for any other purpose.

Legal requirements

We may disclose your data if required to do so by law or a court order.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the following rights over your personal data:

• Access. Ask what data we hold about you and get a copy of it
• Rectification. Have anything inaccurate or incomplete corrected
• Erasure. Have your data deleted, in certain circumstances
• Restriction. Ask us to stop using your data while a concern is sorted out
• Objection. Object to how we use your data, including anything we do on the basis of legitimate interest
• Portability. Receive your data in a portable format, or have it sent to someone else
• Withdraw consent. Take back consent at any time, wherever we rely on it

How to exercise them

Email [email protected] and tell us which right you want to use. There is no form to fill in and no charge. We may ask you to confirm who you are first, so we do not hand your data to someone else.

We reply within one month. If a request is complicated and we need longer, we will tell you why inside that first month.

For analytics specifically, the quickest route is the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page. That withdraws consent immediately without needing to contact us.

Making a complaint

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK regulator for data protection.
